The New Jersey Uniform Fire Code (N.J.A.C. 5:70) governs a building in use and applies to every building except owner-occupied one- and two-family homes. Every other use the fire code applies to is registered with the municipality under its local fire-prevention ordinance and inspected by the local fire official.
